Artist Profile

Ceramic artist YAYA, born in Tokyo, comes from a family background of farmers in Gunma, which has deeply rooted her connection to nature, the earth, and soil. It has now been 13 years since she began working with ceramics. Over the years, she has frequently traveled to places like Hawaii and Okinawa, always seeking to connect her heart and body with nature—an experience that continually nourishes her creative process.

“Choosing and kneading the clay, throwing, trimming, selecting the glaze and applying it, firing. At every step, even the smallest detail can bring about change. I work with an image of the finished piece in mind, yet the true outcome remains unknown until the very last moment, when the firing is complete.
